Dark Fishing Spider

Dolomedes tenebrosus

Description:

These are large spiders with a leg span up to 90mm (3.5 in). Brown with mottling. Tan bands on legs. Brown chevrons bordered with black on upper side of abdomen.

Habitat:

I've found these spiders in both deciduous and conifer forests, usually near water.

Notes:

These spiders get their name from their habit of finding food on or under the water's surface.
