Updated from a Roseate skimmer as this is more common in Europe, and here in Portugal.

This species is easy to ID, because it is the only species of this color in Europe. Location is a valid criteria for ID.

Except when you are an experienced specialist, I would not start to speculate about never-seen-before immigration.

Thanks for the update, taka.ita. It could be a migrated roseate skimmer, but this ID makes more sense, looking at the photos. But they do look very similar - it's difficult to get a good ID, sometimes!

Trithemis annulata makes much more sense. It is not uncommon in Portugal, while Orthemis ferruginea is unknown in Europe.

Thanks, p.young. :) Ashish, I will agree with you - I have had a look at others but it seems you are correct. Thank you for the ID. :)

This must be migrated Roseate Skimmer (Orthemis ferruginea) like Asia may distributed in Europe also.

Though not found in Europe...need to do a little more research.

I think you're right, Ashish, thanks. The only difference I can see between the American Roseate Skimmer and this one is the colour of the wings.

Can be The Roseate Skimmer (Orthemis ferruginea) if find in Europe..
