Aerial roots of Cissus Plant

This plant always amazes me. The roots this visit appeared to be thicker than normal. The Conservatory mists the air repeatedly, and that must be how these roots take in water. I've never seen the plant that goes with the roots, just the strings. I assume these plants are native to areas where there are tall canopies like Brazilian rainforests. I can never remember to ask the staff when I see them, where this plant comes from. Cissus is a wild grape plant. There is a variety that lives locally, outside the conservatory, but there are not any areal roots to that plant. This was inside the "rain forest" area in the Fuqua Conservatory. This was a night visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Atlanta, GA.
