Snake Bird

Anhinga rufa

Description:

The anhinga, (anhinga rufa) is sometimes called snakebird or darter. When surfacing after a dive, it swims underwater with just it's long slender neck above the water. It looks like a snake. (last 2 images) It hunts by spearing fishes and other small prey using its sharp, slender beak.

Habitat:

Seen along the Nile River towards Murchison Waterfalls.
