Anise Swallowtail Butterfly first instar caterpiller

Papilio zelicaon

Description:

Spotted this tiny (8mm) Anise Swallowtail Butterfly first instar caterpiller eating fennel blossoms in my veggie garden. I have never seen an Anise Swallowtail Butterfly in my garden. It is nice to know that a butterfly did visit and lay her eggs on the fennel plant. I am planting more fennel, dill, and parsley in hopes of luring more butterflies to my garden.

Habitat:

Urban veggie garden.
