Mute Swan

Cygnus olor

Description:

These two swans are a mated pair. The female (1st photo) is sitting on a nest made of reeds, while the male (2-4th photos) was preening and catching fish. Both were unperturbed by my presence near the nest, which surprised me.

Habitat:

On the bank of an inlet near the ocean. Their nest was in the reeds.

Notes:

Mute swans are not indigenous to North America. They are native to Europe and Asia and were introduced to the US.
