Nephila maculata
There were plenty of these around. The Giant Wood Spider is a species of arachnid found in India and in other Asian countries. Interestingly, it is the adult female which grows to about 2-4 inches; almost a Giant in comparison to the male, which grows to less than 10 mm. While the male is reddish brown in color, the large yellow spots at the joints of the limbs of the female is the distinguishing characteristic of this species.
Spotted near the Kanha National Park.
Their huge webs that span almost up to two meters in diameter are impressive We did read somewhere that small birds and bats too sometimes get caught in these webs and it is not hard to believe that after seeing their large webs.
Hopefully suggestive for the Mission "Spiders of India"..

Thanks ccm7 and Ashish for confirming the ventral area, I was not aware what it was. Ccm7, even I am nervous about spiders but felt that this one was cool. Thanks CarolSnowMilne, you have got a wonderful collection.
Satyen check Indian specie name... Actually Daniele is correct but mentioned main specie name only... Not actual sub specie... Check...

It was a different spider at different place. Will keep it. Thanks for the help.
Satyen, if it's a different spider at a different place you should keep it. It's valuable information.
Thanks Daniele. I guess I will have to delete this one to avoid duplicates. Sorry.
