Balanophora papuana
Parasitic plant with branched coral like vegetative growth from which the separate male and female inflorescences will later burst.
Deep in the Mossy cloud forest of Gunung Brinchang, amongst the web of roots that forms the forest floor.
There was plenty of gone over Balanophora fungosa in this forest but this was the only one of this sp. I saw.

Thanks Kristal! Excellent research. I should make more use of the Parasitic Plant Connections, it really is an awesome site. I was mistakenly thinking that these little white nodes were the flowers but you're right, these look just like the prelude to flowering. Will update spotting now.
Looks like the vegetative growth of Balanophora papuana: http://www.flickr.com/photos/botalex/289.... Very cool! I found it by browsing the Parasitic Plant Connection's Balanophoraceae page: http://www.parasiticplants.siu.edu/Balan....
