Fun fact! Some centipedes demonstrate amazing parental care. The female guards her eggs, and stays with the young after they have hatched. A few make the ultimate sacrifice – some species are matriphagic, meaning that the offspring eat their mother.

Hi textless, I think it's due again for the centipedes to have eggs next month. See if I can get other species - (oh dear ... moving rocks and slabs again!)

no offense to centipedes - i like them a lot better than some of our own species. Your photos were great - wouldn't have missed it for the world myself. Thanks.

We have lots of centipedes here but I've never seen one with eggs. Nice spotting!

Thanks everybody .... markaridgway, I jumped when I lift up the slab but then in split second my brain told me to grab the camera :)
LeubaRidgway, aren't we all the same, arthropods or humans, we share the same planet :) and doing the same things such as looking after the offsprings ......

normally, centipedes are one of very few animals that make me cringe but these pictures show another aspect to life ! - or does it mean more centipedes!!!. Thanks for posting - great spotting and pics.

Fabulous!
One of these fell out of my sleeve the other day. Should have shaked out the shirt before putting it on. Still it got the heart rate up for a while.
