Snow-shoe hare

Lepus americanus

Description:

Driving north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada I saw this pair of Snowshoe hares on the roadside. They were in the Spring coat, blending in with the grass and snow wonderfully. I was lucky that they stayed on the roadside long enough for me to get some good pictures. This was a new species for me!

Habitat:

dense vegetation surrounded by grassy fields
