Eucalyptus Longhorned Borer

Phoracantha recurva

Description:

Native to Australia, this black and brown beetle has very long antennae, two dots on the elytra and black near the tip. The very tips are brown again. The video shows it moving its mandibles which it uses to bore into trees. This one was injured and unable to walk any longer.

Habitat:

Found inside the house when the cat was playing with something. It's unknown how it got inside since the cats are only indoors. We have two gigantic gum trees (Eucalyptus) next door.

Notes:

Spotting by one of my teen nature enthusiasts :)
