Tortoise leaf beetle

Paropsisterna varicollis?

Description:

Shiny orange, yellow, red or green leaf beetle. It has a black body and sometimes purple wings.

Habitat:

Found on Swamp Gums in Buxton.

Notes:

They seem a bit brighter than those in the suburban parks.
Pic 4 is a different specimen with purple wings.
Pic 5 is the probable egg pattern.

These eggs do rather confuse me because the blob on the end is odd. Eggs of leaf beetles are very variable - here are two more types. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/815...

Its working fine for me. I have put another copy in and will leave it there for a while until it settles down.
