Incredibly neat architecture with pot-like exit/entry hole on one side (second photo) in addition to two circular holes on the actual "body"of the nest.
Just outside a window...office building.
I wish I had spotted the wasp at work. The nest seems new ...unused. Abandoned maybe.

Thanks SarahWhitt...yes, hard like concrete...but quite smooth to touch...amazing finish! Without tools at that.
That is SUPER!! They are fascinating to watch build these nests. One lil ball of mud in their mouth at a time.
.....and on a side note, those nests are like concrete when dried!! Really hard to remove from the interior boards in our barn.
Yes, here in Costa Rica I have lots of them making nests.... they do not look like that, at all.... so perhaps another kind of Wasp is making this nest??
Very interesting. I'm wondering if maybe this is made from 2 different types of wasp. Here in the US "Mud daubers" Make tubular structures of mud, with several chambers in each, 1 egg per chamber. The mature wasp then chews out of the chamber. Those are the two holes.
The little "pot" on top is definitely made by a species of "potter wasp". They are very lovely little wasps. The female wasp makes 1 little pot for each egg. The mature wasp then chews out of the side of the pot, or the top.
So I'm wondering if maybe a potter wasp may have built her nest on top of a mud-dauber's nest??
