Furrow Orb Weaver Spider & Large Tolype Moth

Description:

Spider information: Family: Araneidae (Orb weavers) Female. Abdomen length: 5-9 mm. Leg length: 18-35 mm. Brown/black. Moth information: Family: Lasiocampidae (Lappet moth) Length: 17-28 mm. Wingspan: 32-58 mm. Gray FW with contrasting white veins. AM and double PM lines are whitish. ST line is evenly curved along its length. Females are paler and less well marked than males .Adult food: Unknown. Larval food: many varieties of deciduous trees.

Habitat:

Came to light near woodlands.

Notes:

There was a very fierce fight between spider and moth, but the large, dense moth escaped as seen in the photo: "The spider stands alone."
