Dendroica pinus
This looks like a Goldfinch, but he would not turn around so I could see his back feathers. OK - someone who knows more about birds than me says this is a Warbler of some kind. I looked in my bird book and do not see any that look just like it and a bunch that look a little like it. Update #3 - the consensus is this is a Pine Warbler. But my other spotting of a Pine Warbler looks quite a bit different with much more streaking. Could this be a male/female/juvenile difference?
Well given the comments, this seems to be a different individual Pine Warbler. I've never seen any and now I've spotted two. Neat. Thanks for all the comments folks.
The pine warbler looks like a good fit... same head shape and beak/head ratio.
Individual variation. Some birds have more streaks on the breast, some may be darker, etc.
Liam. Thanks for the ID help. But this does not look like the Pine Warbler in teh other spot I saw today. Could it be a male/female/juvenile difference?
Note the dirty yellow color with smudgy breast streaks and the blueish wings with wingbars.
Hmmm... I can sorta see the dark wingbands, but the head doesn't look finch like. I also wouldn't expect a goldfinch to be that color now. Of course, I'm not familiar with plumage changes in the south.
Yellow Warbler? Both these ideas are the wrong time of year for them to be in Georgia.
I didn't realize these guys were still around but I guess you are further south then us so maybe they hang around longer!
