Ringed Kingfisher

Ceryle torquata

Description:

The largest of the Costa Rican Kingfishers, looks much like N America's belted Kingfisher

Habitat:

over the river

Notes:

I have been trying to get one of my local belted kingfishers for about 6 mos. There is one that perches next to the highway and I see it generally when I have no time to stop, it isn't safe to stop, or I've left my camera home. So I was determined to spot one in Costa Rica. I lucked out finding this guy enjoying the brief rain shower

Great series! In Costa Rica, we only say one or two which quickly flew away.
