Leaf beetle

Paropsis geographica

Description:

This finely spotted beetle is common lately. There is some variation on the intensity of the spotting and this one is quite intense.

Habitat:

On Red Box in a nature reserve.

Notes:

The less marked ones have been called Paropsis marmorea. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/626... The more marked ones are Paropsis geographica. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/284... There seems to be a gradient of intermediate forms and visual patterns would appear to be insufficient to determine species.

I can now confirm this is P. geographica as P. marmorea has the main elytral blotches behind the middle line (submedial) and for geographica they are medial, or slightly forward.
