Glaucous-winged Gull

Larus glaucescens

Description:

Glaucous-winged Gull eating a very large Ochre Sea Star. We watched this gull struggle to swallow the starfish for about an hour. We assumed it was stuck, since it was still working on it when we left, but two weeks later at a different beach, I saw another gull do the same thing and sucessfully swallow a similar-sized starfish after 30 minutes. The fourth photo in the series is of the second gull.
