Senecio elegans
A solitary bright magenta flower with attractive buds around it. It stood about two feet tall. Flowers had bright yellow disc florets and 13 bright ray florets. Leaves were heavily dissected with sparse hairs. they felt slightly sticky and thick as if suited to salty conditions. Larger leaves were at the base.
Spotted on coastal dunes on a bay which is slightly open to Bass Strait.
Said to have helped stabilze coastal dunes facing Bass Strait. A native of South Africa, it is said to be toxic to grazing cattle. <bur> has several common names including purple groundsel. Family: Asteraceae
