Hairy caterpillar -2

? Anthela sp

Description:

A dark caterpillar about 20mm long. Had a long white streak along its back.Long black bristles covered its back- these were more dense at the head and tail end. The sides had tufts of long white bristles and on the mid region of the back there appeared to be tufts of long grey bristles. Head looked red with a glossy patch of black on either side of the mid-line.

Habitat:

found this under a gumtree

Notes:

Very small and insignificant-looking but quite silvery and striking, close-up. I seem to be finding a lot of caterpillars this season but i am not able to identify them..

Martin, I looked at anthelids and arctiids awhile ago. Anthelid caterpillars seem to be much larger and the tufts of hairs are arranged in clear segments - still will have a closer look.
