Mallard Ducks

Description:

Drake has brilliant green head with a white to gray neck band, yellow bill, brown breast, light gray upper body with a black rump, Hen has a mottled brown/tan body with black markings and a yellow to orange bill that may show some brown markings

Habitat:

Almost any body of water from road side ditches and small ponds to streams, rivers and reservoirs.

Notes:

This species is very much a bird that has adapted to living in an urban environment. It is not unusual to see mother ducks and their ducklings nesting near homes and public buildings. These birds were sighted at Miller Park, Bloomington, Illinois which is in the heart of a large residential section of the community.
