Ghost Crab

Ocypode quadrata

Description:

I saw this little guy while I was at Las Croabas beach in Puerto Rico. He was digging out a tunnel (pictured by his right set of legs) by dragging up bits of sand with his right legs and then throwing it to the side. Body was approximately three inches around, and he never went more than a few inches from the mouth of his tunnel while I watched him.

Habitat:

Presumably lives in holes in sandy, soft ground in the Caribbean. Holes could be seen all over the beach where this crab was spotted.
