Tangle-veined Fly

Description:

Family Nemestrinidae This species has a rounded, brown broadly barred abdomen, the wings are black with few white streaks, the thorax is tan

Habitat:

on a grass leaf, less than 2cm wide at its widest in a meadow

Notes:

Very prominently perched on leaf surface, very visibly standing out in the habitat as a dark spot. Maybe it just emerged or has come kind of defense or is out late enough in the season that the predators are few. The bald-faced hornets stopped foraging with the first cold night.
