Common Greenshield

Flavoparmelia caperata

Habitat:

The habitat was in the woods. In the woods were a lot of trees, stumps, and bushes. Also there was a little bit of snow on the ground, and some spots on the ground were bare.

Notes:

Field Notes Today, January 18, 2012, my science class went outside and tried to find lichen. We found a lot of lichen, it was mostly on some trees that were on the ground. The weather outside was very cold and windy the day we went outside. These are some characteristics on Lichen. The windspeed was 18mph. The gust outside was 26mph. Snow depth was 15 cm. The lichen I am identifying is a whitish, grayish color. My group found the lichen in the woods. The woods had a lot of trees that were lying on the ground, and most of the trees on the ground, had lichen on them. But some trees that were not lying on the ground, they had lichen on it as well. The lichen I am identifying is a whitish grayish color. We found the first piece of lichen we found was on a skinny tall tree. Then we found some more on the tree that was lying on the ground. Kingdom: Fungi Division: Ascomycota Class: Lecanormycetes Order: Lecanorales Family: Parmeliaceae Genus: Flavoparmeila Species: F. caperata
