Loquat

Eriobotrya japonica

Description:

The loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae, native to south-central China. This unripe fruit was in the garden of a restaurant just outside Springbrook National Park. It grows on a large tree that can grow up to 5 - 10 meters. The loquat is originally from southeastern China where it has medicinal uses. (see link)

Habitat:

Cool, temperate rainforest, altitude around 1000 meters

Notes:

We had one of these trees in our garden in Melbourne when I was growing up. I spent a good proportion of my childhood up the top of this tree dreaming of far away places!
