Buteo lineatus
medium hawk with red breast and black barred wings that in flight look bluish
in a rural area on a power pole
Thanks Liam. The book I had at home showed both as being barred in the wings - the wiki sites showed coopers more solid like sharp shinned. This pair lives in the valley by my house and I see them all the time. This one has the habit of swooping in front of my car as if to get my attention
That unique rufous coloration and barred chest make it a Red-shouldered, not Cooper's.
