White Throated Humming Bird or Beija-flor-de-papo-branco

Leucochloris albicollis

Description:

About 2.5-3 inches long. Green with a white throat. They are territorial. This particular bird was seen at a feeder in my yard. He likes to sit in a near by tree most of the day and chase away other birds that try to feed at the feeder. This particular bird is not shy, he lets me get very close to him, and at times he even sings for me, as seen in the third photo.

Habitat:

Found in South America in southeast Brazil, northeast Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. In Brazil they are found at high altitudes, such as Curitiba where I spotted this little guy. They spend the entire year in one place, surviving the winter.
