Hackberry Tree

Celtis occidentalis

Description:

A work of art. Hackberries are abundant here and in a lot of the south/southeast, but their bark is such an otherworldly kind of beautiful. Something about the warty nodes on the bark has always brought to mind architecture like Angkor Wat to me.

Habitat:

Abundant throughout the U.S. south/southeast.

Yes, that is so Angkor Wat! Amazing bark. I've never seen anything like it.
