Honey Locust

Gleditsia sp.

Description:

My first time ever seeing this plant in Citrus County. It has woody stems with long red thorns and even pinnately compound leaves. A couple feet tall. Gleditsia triacanthos and Gleditsia aquatica are both listed as present in Florida, but not in Citrus County according to the Florida Plants Atlas (see link in references).

Habitat:

Near some oak and small shrubs at the Chassahowitzka Salt Marsh Trails in Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge
