A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Bald Eagles are the second largest raptor in North America (behind the Golden Eagle) and are The United States of America's national bird. They have dark brown plumage with a white head and tail. They do not acquire these white parts until maturity, which occurs at four or five years of age. They have a very prominently yellow beak and feet.
Bald Eagles are found in most parts of North America at some point in the year and can usually be found within a few miles of large, open bodies of water, including the ocean.
This picture was taken at a raptor clinic I volunteer in. The strange, reddish light comes from a heat lamp hanging above. This bird had a fractured humerus and was emaciated. He was probably hit by a car and could therefore not feed himself. He was recently released!

Nice work.
Great that he could be released again.
heartwarming!
I'm pleased to hear the story had a happy ending!
Thank you. It presents a different aspect of wildlife that I thought people here would appreciate experiencing :)
What excellent work you do in the clinic.
