Red-headed Rock Agama

Agama agama

Description:

Handsome male with bright red-orange head and dark-blue body, some 40 to 45 cm long (including that long tail), shedding skin.

Habitat:

Seen at outskirts of a town Yenangoa, bordering to a forests of flood plain of Niger river.

Notes:

Recently, there were some changes in classification inside the A. agama species, and a number of subspecies became species - the whole issue was/is rather confusing - I previously thought these, ound in Nigeria would belong to the A. africana species; but the range seems very off according to IUCN maps... By the way, I have no idea why these photos face left - they should all be facing upward...

He's a handsome fellow. I've seen his east African cousins. Very memorable.
