Cave Centipede

Description:

A Thereuopoda centipede. It is known very well by the villagers there as "Lipan Gua" - Cave Centipede because they are found more commonly inside caves. We are also told by our local cave guide that they are venomous. 3 individuals inside this spotting. 60mm in length. Possesses incredibly long limbs and antennae, the last pair of legs (hook) and its antennae being the longest body parts, longer than the main body, which is unusual compared to many other genus of centipedes. Legs are striped light brown with dark reddish brown. Same number of legs as the House Centipede (Scutigera sp.), 14 pairs of walking legs. The trunk (main body) are clearly segmented into large segments. Between each segments there are small orange claw-like structures. Edge of each segments are brightly lined. Their heads look dented on the top.

Habitat:

Wall and rocks of Madai Caves, Madai, Kunak, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

James Brickell, a wildlife filmmaker once mentioned that this centipede species is the king of hell (hell to describe the cave). Bonus info: Scutigera decipiens is recorded in Batu Caves, Malaysia. >>>Map accuracy : 2km diameter.
