Double-barred Finch (Double-bar)

Poephila bichenovii

Description:

Also known as owl-faced, Banded, Bicheno, Barred or Ringed Finch. Grows to about 11cm, sweet little finch familiar in gardens, brown/black head, upper wings and back with white spots, tail and rump black, lower rump and uner tail white in eastern type, but appears black in western type. Face and under belly creamy white, black ring frames the face which appears bluish white, thin black bar also across lower chest area, blue/grey beak, dark eyes. Soft 'tee' sounds.

Habitat:

Found throughout eastern Australia (south to north-west) and inland, prefers areas near water source.
