Netta rufina
The adult male of this diving duck is unmistakable (all photos). It has a black tail and breast, whitish flanks and light brownish back. It shows a conspicuous orange and rounded head, with red bill and red eyes. The female (seen on photo 6) is mainly a pale brown, with a darker back and crown and a whitish face. The eclipse male is like the female.
Red-crested pochards are gregarious birds and small groups are observed regularly on Geneva lake, most often mixed with other waterfowl. Urban environment.
