Common Hill Myna

Gracula religiosa

Description:

Black with bright yellow patches of naked skin and fleshy wattles on the side of its head and nape. Orange beak.

Habitat:

One of a flock seen on a cardamom estate in Munnar, Kerala. The many shade trees were night-time resting places and every evening we were witness to many avian quarrels over space an roosting rights.

Notes:

Wikipedia says..." many authors favor treating the Southern hill myna (G. indica) from the Nilgiris and elsewhere in the Western Ghats of India as a separate species. This species is not just very vocal, it can mimic human speech well too.
