Description:

Looks very white at a distance. In all plumages, has yellow-green legs and long, slightly upturned bill with grey base. Winter adult is pale grey above with white underparts; in breeding plumage, some feathers on back have dark centres. In flight shows uniform wings and white wedge on lower back. Flight call 'tchu-tchu-tchu'.

Habitat:

Found on coasts and marshes. Passing migrant; winters in small numbers.

Notes:

Non-breeding plumage.
