A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Thank you for the information! I am a vegetarian though, haha.
This looks like a woolly bear caterpillar to me, but I cannot be sure without other photos.
Thank you for taking a look at my other post. c:
I returned to the spot where I saw this slime mold, and there was no sign of it. There was, however, a different grouping nearby that appears to have entered the spore-bearing stage (I'm just guessing). I will post it as a new spotting.
Hmm. Is there anything that I can do to help you narrow it down further? I can take better photos today, if it is still there.
A parent finally came by and fed it, after approaching and flying away from it four or five times. Thank goodness.
I tried placing it in the tree, but it doesn't want to stay. At least it has been fed.
No shoe box or bird seed, unfortunately. I had to choose from what I could find at CVS. I know that feeding large quantities of bread to birds is not a good idea, but I needed it in order to offer a source of water. I bought some peanut butter crackers, scraped off the peanut butter, and soaked the cracker portion in water.
The little guy has hopped across a few branches and is chirping again, but has yet to eat or to be fed.
I wanted to get a more specific ID than "rabbit." You wouldn't post a photo of a goose and simply label it bird. I like to narrow my spottings down to species when possible.
Thanks Karen!
It was a surprise to see one wandering around a college campus. I would have IDed it myself, but I have been a bit busy.
That is also why I could not update the info as quickly as you wanted, Alice.
