The Wall of Tears is on Isabella Island, the largest of the Galapagos Islands.
Thanks S Frazier for the ID and info, I think i've got it sorted now.
Thanks all! Any ideas for the ID of this interesting wasp?
Neil, are long-neck turtles only native in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa?
Thanks Larry! Yes, these huntsman are exceptionally large, I have only found them at this size directly along the river banks. This one was large enough to wrap its legs around the sides of a canoe paddle!
Thanks for the ID, Neil! This was one of the most rugged turtles I have seen.
Haha, that was exactly my reaction as I grabbed my whitewater helmet to put it on and saw this hairy guy on the other side!
Thanks for the lead! This one isn't quite as thread-legged as the variety you spotted, but I think you're right about the type.
Thanks for the suggestions, both seem very close! With the variability of patterns its tough to determine from the photo. The length was about 6" from snout to tail, the tail being half of that length.
