Thanks Martin! I learned something very interesting from that!

But.... this guy did not have long wings like a katydid - they were more like stubs - I have uploaded another photo of his back, to show that.

Looks like Turkey Tail but would have to see the underside to make sure it is a polypore. If it has gills it is NOT a Turkey Tail.
