Sign In to followI've been studying Harbor Seals in Maine for over 30 years (yikes!!) It is amazing to see how far their range has expanded!! Great work making things clean enough for them to move back to what was probably an original territory? The Marine Mammal Protection act was really important too because the population everywhere was able to rebound.
I have a friend on Long Island who studies a population that is just beginning to flourish there. http://www.cresli.org/cresli/seals/hbrse...

Were they effected by the fire?
That is neat.... here in the Gulf of Maine, whale watch boats have been going out since the 1970's and it is said that some well known mothers bring their calves to their boat to babysit while the mom goes to feed... she can find her young one by listening for the distinctive sound of the boats engine!
Looks like a mother and calf?
It is indeed a wonderful place.
