A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Duh... I'm still learning how this works! Just added it this morning. Have a nice day!
Of course you can! I just wish I had been able to get my pic in better focus!
I looked it up-there are 11 subspecies of Dudleya cymosa most of which are rare or endangered. CALFLORA.org is a great way to ID plants if you have an idea of the name (even common). You can narrow it down by plants found in your county-click on the photo and it will take you to cal photos to see more pics of the leaves etc. I agree the dudleyas are amazingly beautiful. I have a couple of chalk dudleyas I have grown from seed. I work for a nonprofit habitat restoration organization that collects seeds from land they own, grows them and plants them into restoration sites. I absolutely love my job-I'm really lucky!
Nice pic! I do believe this species is endangered
Oleander? If it is don't eat it! Very poisonous!
Is it native to Virginia (hence it's name)? It's invasive in southern California and is found in the wild. Hard to get rid of
Looks like some kind of Indian Paintbrush. Go to calflora.org and search for by county
Some kind of ice plant? Check out CALFLORA http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/speciesl...
This reminds me of wild celery- crush some leaves and smell. Smell like celery?
