Gouldian Finch

Erythrura gouldiae

Description:

Small native finch of varied colour and markings that include red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, green, orange (this one is the red faced version). Stout short beak, multi-coloured. Threatened in the wild and conservation programs are ongoing. Many birds are successfully bred in captivity in Australia and overseas.

Habitat:

This one in captivity with private breeder. Natural habitat is in the far north west of Australia in the Kimberley region, the Northern Territory and far north Queensland.

Notes:

Hope to see some in the wild this year.
