The Chicago region is blessed with a rich mix of habitats and ecosystems, many examples of which have been protected in local preserves and parks. While there has been tremendous development of the region, significant natural areas still provide homes and protection to a rich selection of organisms, and this is intended to document all forms of nature in or near the Chicago region, both native and non-native. Plants, animals, fungi and slime molds are all included subjects.
