Thanks Malcolm. I can't quite bring myself to refer to it as a 'Laughing Kookaburra', it sounds trite or something!! Also, I don't think I've ever seen a Blue-winged Kookaburra, so there's no room in my life (yet) for confusion. ; )
Nice pictures. This one is often referred to as "Laughing Kookaburra" due to its voice, and differentiate it from the very similar Blue-winged Kookaburra, which screeches and cackles. The Blue-winged lives in the northern states and the ranges overlap in Queensland.
