Great Cormorant

Phalacrocorax carbo

Description:

Large (about 70 to 80cm in length) aquatic dark-plumaged bird. Most of those in pis are non-breeding adults, uniformly black with some glossy sheen. There is a bare yellow skin at the base of strong bill, surrounded by whitish area. Juveniles (one seen on a pic N°4, facing the camera) recognized by off-white belly.

Habitat:

Here, seen in large numbers (never before I saw so many of them) mid-September on Geneva lake, on several shores of the city.
