Hair ice fungus

Exidiopsis effusa

Description:

When the temperature is just below 0 ºC and there is high humidity, this fungus makes a formation of fine, long frost hairs that stay in this form for several hours to days. The hairs are smooth, often with a silky shine.

Habitat:

On the forest ground on bark-free wood.

Notes:
