Dainty Sulphur

Nathalis iole

Description:

Very small. About 16mm from wing tip to wing base. Wings largely yellow-orange above. Forewing yellow-orange at the base with three conspicuous black spots near the outer margin. Hindwing and forewing tip, greenish.

Habitat:

Urban garden.

Notes:

This was my first confirmed sighting of a Dainty Sulphur. It was noticeably smaller than the Orange Sulphurs typically seen around here. Its flight was erratic and it would occasionally land for a few seconds. Eventually it landed on this Oxalis flower long enough for me to photograph it.
