Tobacco Hornworm

Manduca sexta

Description:

The Tobacco hornworm is green with seven diagonal white lines on the sides and a curved red horn. The Tomato hornworm has eight V-shaped marks and a straighter blue-black horn.

Habitat:

This hornworm was on a Sweet 100 tomato plant. We were gone a few days and it ate most of the leaves, but left enough for the plant to recover.

Notes:

Sweet 100 tomato plant; this small prolific tomato does well in the spring and fall in Texas. There are two tomato hornworms that attack tomatoes, so you must keep a daily eye on the plant.
