Northern Cardinal nest

Cardinalis cardinalis

Description:

A Northern Cardinal nest spotted along the boardwalk that goes through the central wetland area at Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Photos 1-4 show an adult male feeding two- or more chicks. Photo 5 shows an adult female minding the nest. The nest was located in a thicket of thorny bushes approximately three feet above the wetlands. The chicks survived less than a week; it is probable they were eaten by a predator. Sad!

Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntl...
