Xanthotype urticaria
First three images show color and wing shape and pattern, fourth image is to give a size comparison. (I have piano player hands) The moth is a little larger than a quarter.
very nice series! Especially, like the close-ups followed by the last photo to show size
Excellent work all! Thank you so much for the Identification! I am not as good with moths as I am with butterflies, honestly before Project Noah, I didn't pay much attention to the moths around me. :-D
baycca, I didn't know one could vote for both ID suggestions. I think for a while we couldn't, or it seems to me. Good job to both of you! You've both earned my vote...grin.
Bayucca, the only way I found it was scrolling through your suggestions for half an hour. Haha, finally found it! I knew you had IDed one before.
Oh, I see, yes I was first! Took me only 5 minutes, but it was hard to remember this name, I only knew it starts with a "X"...
And yes: We are definitely right! So, Gordon, please, make a "+" for both of us!
Markings are one thing, but in this case, the range is more important (and easier). If you look at some pictures you might again note a great variability.
We are definitely right, bayucca. I have check many sources, and the markings match perfectly.
I've had that happen to me several times as well. So, who should I agree with...grin.
These Xanthotype are tricky to ID, I think it is important where exactly you found it. Urticaria is certainly found in NY, some of the others not. You have to check the bugguide link for info and verify. But from the range I think there is only one solution: Urticaria!

Bayucca! You got to it before me! I spent the last half hour looking! Haha
